Application Procedure

Please see the full Admissions Policy under the 'Info Centre' section.  A summary of the main points is below:

Upon contacting the school, prospective parents are given a copy of the school prospectus and additional information, including the school's Charter of Educational Principles.  At the same time prospective parents are invited to visit the school and to meet the Head. This is an opportunity to see the school in action and for the Head to discuss the ethos of the school.  It is always a pleasure to show prospective parents and their children around Oakwood, especially during school hours.

Parents are encouraged to visit the different sections within the school's website in order to gain further background information.  All key policies are available to view under the section entitled 'Info Centre'.

Parents who wish to apply then fill in the application form and return it to the school together with their non-refundable application fee. There are separate forms for the school and nursery.

Pupils entering at any stage between Reception and Year 6 are invited to sit an assessment, which is based on English and maths skills designed for their age group.

A separate interview may be arranged at this time, following which parents are then notified in writing of the offer of a place. Priority is given to those families who, as far as they are able, are in a position to give an assurance that their child will remain at Oakwood through to Year 6.  Parents accept the place by returning the reply slip and deposit (for school places only). This constitutes a formal acceptance of their child's place, and the deposit is non refundable if the place is not taken up. Thereafter a full term's notice, in writing, should be given should they wish to withdraw their child from the nursery or school.

It should be understood that Oakwood may contact the child's previous school (with parental agreement) in order to ensure that the child will be able to benefit from the education provided at Oakwood and and to confirm that all financial matters (if applicable) have been satisfactorily resolved. Parents must disclose to the Head before admission any feature of the child's personality, physical and mental health that might affect their fitness for education and membership of the school. Failure to do this may result in the withdrawal of the offer of a place.

During the term prior to a child starting at Oakwood, a copy of the Parents Handbook and uniform information is posted home.  Nursery children will be invited to attend a short settling in session on their first day.

Parents whose children are moving from the Upper Nursery into the Reception class will need to fill in a school application form during the Autumn term prior, together with a deposit which will secure their child's place (this will be returned in their last term in the school, provided all outstanding fees and charges have been paid). Places will be offered subject to availability and to the considerations made above and according to our Admissions Policy.

Parents should note that younger siblings must be registered separately.
