Pre-Prep
New Title
First steps
From September 2023, Oakwood School will accept children from age 4 upwards, into Reception.
Our Pre-Prep department is for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. They benefit from small class sizes and a nurturing environment where learning is focused on each child.

Reception
Reception children benefit from specialist teaching in Physical Development, art, music and Spanish. Children experience a rich curriculum and memorable hands-on experiences, as well as activities which allow them to make links through their learning.
Our curriculum is planned and delivered through stories to promote a love for reading. All children have daily one to one reading sessions where they read and talk about the story focusing on developing their word recognition and comprehension skills.
In Reception we teach Maths through a mastery approach based on the Singapore Method, this is continued as they enter Year 1. In the summer term, we work to ensure the transition to Year 1 is a natural step in their learning journey.
Our Character Development programme underpins everything we do in the Early Years: the virtues we teach give children the tools to become happy, hardworking and caring children.
‘Lola really enjoys going to nursery. She goes to school happy and tells us all about her friends and what she does when she comes back home.’
MashIt‘I think you are all simply amazing and have done a fantastic job with the children. Thank you also for all the hard work you all do on a daily basis for our boys we are so grateful.’
FabuFit‘Lucrezia has settled in very well, she is happy, chatty, charming and articulate. She loves school and is very fond of her teachers and friends, she never complains nor is ever reluctant to attend. It has been an absolute pleasure watching Lucrezia learning to read and to be able to see her write her name.’
YesSuits‘I find she has settled extremely fast and really well. After a full year at home I am really impressed at how quickly she has settled as she is very shy. She enjoys everything, she tells me she likes music, art and playing.’
Button‘Our daughter enjoys phonics, woodland activities and other science activities. She has made great progress in her reading and is also enthusiastic about maths and understanding large numbers.’
